Summary
The Analyst, Fundamentals is responsible for assisting the development and management of North American supply, demand, infrastructure, and price forecasting in support of trading, strategic investments, and risk management.
Position Description
- Maintain and update databases for energy market report; regularly adjust and refine reports to incorporate new data, address changes in market conditions, and meet evolving business needs.
- Develop and implement automated workflows to streamline the modeling process and the updating of recurring reports.
- Support national and regional supply-demand balances on natural gas as well as collecting and maintaining inputs for zonal and nodal power dispatch models in support of various groups across the company including commercial gas & power trading and asset development.
- Track and disseminate major industry news, announcements, and regulatory actions that could impact market fundamentals across gas and power markets.
- Understand and explain drivers of forward curves and how/why they differ from internal POV.
- Analyze and identify emerging trends affecting short-, mid- and long-term congestion patterns across ISOs – particularly ISONE, NYISO, PJM, and ERCOT, along with understanding of the North American energy supply/demand/infrastructure fundamentals for natural gas.

- Very strong Excel, programming, database, and BI skills (SQL Server, Python, VBA, or R). Experience with data analysis, visualization, and data management in the energy industry a strong plus.
- Familiarity with ISO datasets, particularly related to nodal LMPs and transmission topology.
- Strong analytical thinking and modeling skills.
- Working knowledge of ISO topology, prevailing congestion patterns, and power plant dispatch, with a particular focus on ISONE, NYISO, PJM, and ERCOT, along with the North American natural gas supply/demand/infrastructure fundamentals.
- Ability to explain drivers of nodal basis and how they could evolve with changing infrastructure – transmission expansion, plant new build & retirements, etc.
- Ability to communicate market views clearly, backed by quantitative analytics – explain the “why”.
- Ability to build models and analysis from the ground up without existing infrastructure, designing efficient and reliable processes.
- Experience with gas or power models such as PLEXOS, PROMOD, AURORA, or GPCM a strong plus.

Qualifications
Required Education and Experience
- A bachelor's degree in economics, engineering, finance, or related discipline.
- 2-5 years of industry experience in a similar role – trading support, asset investment support, consulting.
Preferred Education and Additional Eligibility Qualifications
- Advanced degree.
