Summary/Objective managing
The Director of Environmental Compliance will contribute on many diverse fronts, providing corporate support to multiple thermal and renewable power generation facilities in the United States, and supporting or leading environmental consulting projects. A strong background in key air and multi-media programs is required with particular emphasis on state requirements for power generation facilities in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states.
Position Description
Essential Functions
- Guide operations teams of multiple power generation facilities in complying with applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
- Lead in the development, implementation, and review of policies, standards, and procedures to comply with applicable permits and regulations.
- Maintain proactive lines of communication with decision-makers and stakeholders, including the facility operations and asset management teams, as appropriate, to keep all parties informed of potential regulatory impacts on facilities. This includes tracking the development of regulations as well as potential operational changes at facilities to assess regulatory impacts.
- Provide environmental consulting support in a variety of industrial sectors, potentially including air permitting, air permit compliance, process evaluations, development of complex air emissions calculations, wastewater, water supply, waste characterizations, waste disposal, remediation, sustainability program management, due diligence assessments, and auditing.
- Provide professional interface with regulators and officials, including preparing for and coordinating inspections; responding to information requests; and managing permitting, including modifications and renewals.
- Review, and assist in the preparation or submittal of, routine compliance reports.
- Provide support for facility and corporate environmental, social, and governance programs and reporting.
- Lead periodic plant audits to ensure facility compliance with environmental regulatory requirements.
- Work closely with all departments and employees to contribute technical and regulatory expertise necessary for optimal operation and management of assets.
- Assess potential regulatory consequences of significant changes in project operations.
- Participate in incident investigations or root cause analyses, and in implementing corrective actions.
- Assist with developing plant budgets and managing expenses related to regulatory compliance.
- Develop, implement, and complete improvement plans to support initiatives to achieve and sustain environmental excellence.

Competencies
- Proficiency in the use of a personal computer and related software (Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Must possess a valid US driver’s license with a safe and satisfactory driver history.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with and organize teams.
- Program development and training experience.
- Experience with Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS) and Data Acquisition and Handling Systems (DAHS)
- Training in Environmental Compliance or management; CHMM or engineering professional certification (EIT or PE)
- Previous work experience in a power plant setting
- Experience with web-based document management information software such as SharePoint
- Excellent verbal and written communication and computer skills. Good public speaking and presentation skills; ability to influence without authority.
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience
- BS in Engineering, Environmental Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in thermal power industries environmental compliance.
- Knowledge of state and federal environmental regulations, preference given to experience in ME, MA, NY, NJ, PA.
- A deep understanding of the relationship of environmental regulations and policies to the operations of thermal power plant.
