Summary
JERA Americas (JAM) is headquartered in Houston, Texas and holds strategic investments in energy infrastructure including conventional natural gas/oil-fired electricity generation, renewable electricity generation, and natural gas liquefaction. Within our Thermal-power segment, concentrated in the northeastern U.S., we provide asset management services to our wholly-owned and joint venture power company investments and are seeking an experienced portfolio controller to direct the accounting activities for these assets.
The General Manager – Portfolio Controller will oversee all power plant accounting functions, review monthly financial reporting packages delivered to owners (including budget-to-actual variance analysis), lead external audits, draft financial statements with required US GAAP disclosures, and serve as a lead facilitator in the annual budgeting process. This position reports to the VP Project Controller, directly supports Asset Management function initiatives, and regularly interacts with plant personnel. The ideal candidate possesses deep understanding of power industry economics and market mechanisms, can quickly grasp complex contractual frameworks across multiple companies, and demonstrates an improvement-oriented mindset focused on standardizing practices across portfolios.

- Direct the project-level accounting activities for four (4) thermal power plant portfolios
- Prepare responses to requests from investors regarding the financial position, tax, financial results, and other industry-related topics
- Oversee the monthly close process. This includes review of the monthly close checklist, review, understanding of all account reconciliations, and performance of budget-to-actual variance analysis
- Compile and deliver financial, investor, and bank compliance reports on a timely basis
- Facilitate budget generation meetings, and provide standardized templates, and compile a completed set of budget workpapers inclusive of inputs from various departments (Risk, Finance, Commercial, Insurance, etc.)
- Oversees preparation of quarterly unaudited financial statements and drafts the annual audited financial statements, including updating or authoring disclosures, as required by the portfolio’s LLC/partnership agreement or debt agreements
- Responsible for the financial section of the monthly operating report which may include gathering non-financial operating metrics
- Arranges and coordinates activities associated with the annual financial statement audit and ensures quality understandable workpapers are submitted to auditors
- Interfaces and assists tax consultants in the preparation of annual tax returns, and K-1s, and quarterly estimated payments, as needed, to meet various tax compliance requirements
- Maintain formal policies and procedures including the research and application of all GAAP policies and procedures

- Interfaces and assists consultants in the preparation of GAAP to IFRS reconciliations on a quarterly basis

Qualifications
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
- Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in finance, accounting, tax, and financial planning
- Comprehensive knowledge of US GAAP, full-cycle close process, and financial reporting
Preferred Knowledge and Education
- Master’s degree in business or accounting
- Certified Public Accountant
- Knowledge of accounting concepts specific to power industry
