Summary
The Accounting Manager reports to the Portfolio Controller, is a direct support for the initiatives set forth by the Asset Management function, and regularly interacts with plant personnel. The Accounting Manager has top-to-bottom responsibilities for their portfolio which includes i) coordinating and finalizing the monthly close for all companies consolidated within the portfolio, ii) preparing monthly financial statements and internal reporting packages for the Owners, iii) facilitating the annual budgeting process by preparing the template and coordinating with various groups for their input, and iv) leading the annual audit(s) of the portfolio. The ideal candidate will be comfortable with the idea of taking ownership of the entire accounting function for the portfolio and acquiring the array of knowledge required to run a power generation facility.
Position Description
Essential Functions

- Manage the project level accounting activities for a portfolio of thermal power plants
- Prepare responses to requests from investors regarding the financial position, tax, financial results, and other industry-related topics
- Manage the monthly close process. This includes completion of the monthly close checklist, review, understanding of all account reconciliations, and performance of budget-to-actual variance analysis
- Compile and deliver financial, investor, and bank compliance reports on a timely basis
- Assist Management in the creation of the annual budgets
- Drafts quarterly unaudited financial and annual audited statements as required by the portfolio’s LLC/partnership agreement or debt agreements
- Populates the financial section of the monthly operating report which may include gathering non-financial operating metrics
- Act as the lead point of contact in the annual financial statement audit, including the coordination of gathering PBCs and supporting schedules
- Interface and assist tax consultants in the preparation of annual tax returns, and K-1s, and quarterly estimated payments, as needed, to meet various tax compliance requirements
- Maintain formal policies and procedures including the initial research and application of all GAAP policies and procedures
- Makes staffing level recommendations as complexity of business evolves
- Interfaces and assist consultants in the preparation of GAAP to IFRS reconciliations on a quarterly basis
- Possess strong and effective project management skills and be willing to complete ad hoc requests
- Ensure compliance with internal controls
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
- Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in finance, accounting, tax, and financial planning.
- Comprehensive knowledge of US GAAP, full-cycle close process, and financial reporting.
Preferred Knowledge and Education
- Master’s degree in business or accounting
- Certified Public Accountant
- Knowledge of accounting concepts specific to power industry
- Experience with project financing
- Exposure to financial projection models
- Commodity price risk and hedging strategies
- Credit Risk management and hedging strategies
