Reporting to the General Manager of Project Finance, the Senior Manager of Project Finance will be responsible for valuation, structuring, and modeling support related to investment opportunities that Jera Americas is evaluating.  Additionally, the role will provide ad hoc analysis and forecasting support for JERA Americas existing portfolio, which includes gas fired power plants, renewable energy projects, LNG facilities, and a low carbon molecule project. 

The job duties will include building and managing long-term project models, supporting the M&A and internal development teams, supporting the General Manager on project financings, and other ad hoc duties as needed.  The individual will work directly with the General Manger of Project Finance (“GM”), VP of Finance, CFO of JERA Americas, Financial Asset Management group, Chief Risk Officer (CRO), GM of FP&A, the Corporate Controller, and the M&A and Development teams.  The candidate will have demonstrated experience in finance, the energy industry, and financial modeling.

Essential Functions

 

  • Build complex project finance models, identifying risks and structuring alternatives.
  • Support the drafting of investment memos for committee review.
  • Manage corporate finance facilities (revolving commitments, LC facilities, development facilities) to support the capital needs identified in long-term planning.
  • Stay up-to-date on market trends with respect to financings and maintain forecasts of outlook for refinancing of JERA-owned projects.
  • Work with the M&A team on sell-side initiatives, leveraging existing project models for third party distribution; for acquisitions, build internal project valuation models.
  • Support the Project Finance team on initial and refinancing projects as needed.

Competencies

 

  • Extremely strong Excel and financial modeling skills, with experience modeling a variety of energy generation assets in a project finance structure, tax equity modeling experience is a plus;
  • Experience with project-financed energy assets including debt structures;
  • Experience working with loan documents;
  • Strong initiative, comfort working in unstructured environments;
  • Strong organizational, analytical, project, process, and team management skills;
  • Deep understanding of the US power markets, policy and power economics as they relate to financing;
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship management skills;
  • Highly driven, detail-oriented and hard-working individual with high standards for self and others.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

 

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance, Accounting, or other related field
  • 3 + years of experience in project finance
  • Experience with corporate finance debt facilities
  • 5+ years of financial modeling experience, including building complex financial models from scratch
  • Knowledge of GAAP accounting as it relates to project financed assets

 

Preferred Education and Additional Eligibility Qualifications

 

  • MBA degree or CFA designation
  • 5 + years of experience in project finance, structuring project finance debt, tax equity experience is a plus
  • 7 + years of financial modeling experience including automating models with VBA programming
  • Knowledge of GAAP and IFRS accounting as it relates to project financed assets
  • 3+ years of experience in managing others
